Warriors sent packing

By Paul Farrington
Monday, 8th September 2008
Wigan Warriors have been told they cannot play their Super League Play-off Semi-Final match at the JJB Stadium because the Latics are playing at home the following day.
It is the final nail in the coffin for the Warriors who must now admit second place in the power stakes as Wigan Athletic reign supreme in the sporting world of Wigan.

In a desperate attempt not to disillusion fans, the Warriors are laying on free coach transport to the game and are also knocking 20% off the entry fee.

One local supporter, Maurice, spotted at the JJB Stadium today said: "This is disgusting, why is my club booted out of their stadium just because the little football club have a home game."

Unfortunately for Mr Lindsay, nobody was listening.

Bradford Bulls are the opponents for the Warriors who finished a lowly fourth in the Super League table, whilst local rivals St Helens finished top of hte table for the fourth consecutive year.

The match has been arranged to take place in Widnes with the stadium feeling very much like a neutral venue and could see the Warriors wishing they had finished sixth and were facing the trip to Catalans in France instead.

At least then the power struggle wouldn't have been lost, only the rugby game.
