Player swap deal for Chimbonda Rejected

By Liam Cooper
Tuesday, 1st August 2006
Latics boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that he has rejected a player swap deal for wantaway defender Pascal Chimbonda from Tottenham Hotspurs. It is also rumoured Spurs offered cash as well as two players.
The two players in question are rumoured to be former Liverpool player
Pascal Chimbonda
Danny Murphy and Andy Reid.

The Frenchman returned to Wigan, 15 minutes late, on Monday and held talks with Jewell after his involvement at the World Cup. Tottenham are the only club chasing Chimbonda at the moment, with West Ham pulling out of the race after having a £4million bid rejected.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Jewell said: "Pascal has come back and his agent was in my office when i spoke with Spurs and said we wanted the full £6million for Chimbonda."

"Spurs offered a couple of palyers. We could not reach a deal and if we do not get the full amounth the player stays where he is."

Jewell has moved to provide cover for the right-back position should CHimbonda eventually get the move away he craves. Emmerson Boyce today completed his £1.75million move from Crystal Palace, signing a four-year deal.
