Martinez hoping for imposing performance

By Paul Farrington
Friday, 23rd October 2009
Speaking ahead of his sides trip to Turf Moor this weekend, Roberto Martinez commented that he is hoping for an imposing performance from the Latics and nothing less than three points.
Burnley of course sport a 100% home record, including victories over both Manchester United and Everton so the trip will be very difficult for the Latics. However Martinez is confident that his side can develop some consistency and come away with a result.

"We were all obviously very happy with performance against Man City last week, and with the game being on television a lot of people saw Wigan Athletic properly for the first time, which is important for our image," Martinez told the club's official website.

"On the other hand there was a little disappointment after playing so well and being so dominant not to come away with the win. It's important that we understand what we did well and where we need to improve, and take that into the next game against Burnley.

"We know want to find consistency in our results and in our performances, and I think we're in a position now where we should be able to do that.

"As we know they have an excellent home record this season, the best in the league, and the game is something to look forward to.

"Owen Coyle's team has carried on their momentum from last season and have a solid group of players, who give their team different dimensions.

"We know it'll be a tough environment and the biggest challenge for us will be to impose ourselves on the game and compete against a team with a high tempo and who make it difficult for the opposition to make a break-through."
