| According to reports in todays press, Wigan have agreed a deal with Crystal Palace for Centre-half Emmerson Boyce. Jewell's priority is to sign a right-back, after Chimbonda rejected a proposed new contract offer. |
Wigan previously ended their chase for the Eagles defender, after a £1million bid was rejected earlier this month. However it now seems that Jewell has beaten Charlton to clinching a deal for the 26-year-old.
The fee is beleived to be £1.6million, and although many will see him as Pascal Chimbondas replacement, Jewell is adamant his frenchman will not be leaving Wigan until a club agree to the £6million price tag.
"The situation with Pascal has not changed," Jewell told the Sun.
"We've not had a bid of £4.5million from anybody. Even if we did it would not be accepted."
"Chimbonda is worth £6million, and that was before he made it into the France World Cup squad."
Wigan are currently at their Austria training camp, and Boyce is expected to hold talks over a possible move when Jewell and the squad return.
